In late November 2024, Korbinian, Coordinator at the IRU, had the honor of representing IRU and DGRV at the ICA Global Cooperative Conference in New Delhi. The launch ceremony featured over 3,000 participants, including India’s Prime Minister, H.E. Narendra Modi. The launch event on November 25 also featured the kick-off of the 2025 UN International Year of Cooperatives (IYC).

Day 1: Opening Ceremony and Inauguration of the International Year of CooperativesThe conference began with a dynamic opening ceremony, attended by around 3,000 participants. Absolute highlight of the event was presence of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who in his speech set an inspiring tone for the days ahead. ICA President Ariel Guarco together with Mr. Modi officially launched the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives. We as IRU – International Raiffeisen Union, where delighted to having had the opportunity to feature a video message from Andreas Kappes during the opening ceremony, highlighting the power of cooperation.
Days 2 & 3: Engaging Panel DiscussionsThemed sessions covered topics such as cooperatives’ contributions to the SDGs, sustainability, and modern governance. Panels featured thought leaders and practitioners sharing innovative approaches to cooperative challenges, offering actionable insights and fostering robust exchanges. |
Day 4: Collaboration through Development Platforms
Discussions in platforms like the Cooperatives Europe Development Platform (CEDP) and the International Cooperative Development Platform (ICDP) highlighted synergies among cooperative actors. These meetings strengthened DGRV’s role in global cooperative networks and synergy opportunities.
Day 5: ICA General Assembly
Representing DGRV for the first time at a General Assembly of the ICA was an exciting highlight for me. Over 300 ICA members gathered to discuss and shape the cooperative movement’s future strategies, showcasing the vibrancy of this global network.
The conference underscored the transformative potential of international cooperation and the cooperative model. Representing DGRV and IRU at such a pivotal event was a privilege, reinforcing the critical role cooperatives play in fostering inclusivity and sustainability worldwide.
