The IRU – International Raiffeisen Union is pleased to welcome IFFCO – Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited as a new official member of the IRU network.
The admission was formally approved today by the IRU Presidium. With IFFCO joining the network, the IRU now brings together 52 member organisations from across the global cooperative and Raiffeisen movement.
Founded in 1967, IFFCO has developed into one of the world’s largest cooperative enterprises and one of India’s most significant agricultural cooperatives. Starting with only 57 member cooperatives, IFFCO today represents a network of more than 36,000 Indian cooperatives, reaching millions of farmers across the country.
IFFCO is headquartered in New Delhi and operates primarily in the fertiliser and agricultural sector, while also engaging in a broad range of activities linked to rural development, agricultural services, insurance, sustainability and farmer support. The cooperative has played a major role in supporting India’s agricultural development and food security over the past decades. According to recent international cooperative rankings, IFFCO is among the world’s leading cooperatives.
IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani was also President of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), which has already been part of the IRU network for many years.
The admission of IFFCO further strengthens the IRU’s global network and underlines the growing importance of international exchange among cooperative and Raiffeisen organisations worldwide.
