Recent IRU Connected with KUSCCO Attracts Numerous Listeners and great Q/A
On Tuesday, the fourth IRU Connected session was held. This session featured the work of our member organisation KUSCCO – Kenya Union of Savings- and Credit Cooperatives Ltd..The terrific presentation by Managing Director, Finance Manager and Chief Accountant at KUSCCO Limited as well as IRU Board member Mr George Ototo has attracted numerous participants from organisations worldwide. During the half-hour session Mr Ototo presented the current situation of the Kenyan cooperative organisation, founded in 1973, and what currently moves it.
Furthermore, it was explored which networks and cooperation already exist within the IRU network and what added value a membership in the IRU brings to KUSCCO.
Finally, the expectations of KUSCCO towards the IRU were discussed. This included among others
- frequent exchange of expertise between members
- Connecting our member organisations with each other
- Sharing best practices with members
This IRU Connected was very much in the spirit of Mr Ototo’s concluding summary: Together We Achieve more!

As the voice for Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) in Kenya, KUSCCO has been at the forefront of efforts to form and develop strong and viable SACCOs.
KUSCCO ist the umbrella body for SACCOs and mainly fulfills advocacy and representation purposes. In addition, KUSCCO offers SACCOs and other cooperatives financial and technical assistance, tailored to largely benefit the middle and low income earners both in Kenya’s rural and urban areas. This is a significant fraction of Kenya’s population that drives the country’s economy through the small and medium enterprise (SME) engine.
The IRU-Connected virtual exchange is intended to happen once a month. Therefore, we are already looking forward to the next IRU Connected at the beginning of April (exact date TBD). Read more about it in our Events section. Then our Colleages from the Austrian Raiffeisen Association (ÖRV) will present their organisation.
