Journalists Ms Yi-Hua Chen and Ms Yu-Ling Chen recently visited us to learn more about the German cooperative system, the IRU, its history and tasks.
The visitors from Taiwan came to Germany for two months as part of a journalistic exchange programme to research a book project on the German cooperative system and the two cooperative pioneers Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen and Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch.
In addition to Germany, the two journalists are visiting other countries within Europe to get to know the cooperative systems there. After the visit at IRU, they travelled to Great Britain, which follows the cooperative tradition of the Rochdale Pioneers in particular. Thus, Yi-Hua Chen and Yu-Ling Chen are collecting information on the many different forms of cooperative systems as well as inspiring examples of cooperatives for their new book project, which is to be published in Taiwan and shall generate enthusiasm for the cooperative idea in the Asian country.

Journalist Yi-Hua Chen from Taiwan and IRU Coordinator Korbinian März
In a joint discussion, IRU Coordinator of the Secretariat General Korbinian März presented the historical roots of the German cooperative system as well as the current situation of it. Currently having three esteemed members from Taiwan, a focus was put on the IRU and its current tasks and activities. In particular, the topic of student cooperatives and the various activities of the IRU to inspire young people and cooperators with the cooperative idea aroused great interest among the visitors from Taiwan.
We thank Ms Yi-Hua Chen and Ms Yu-Ling Chen for their visit and look forward to the surely very exciting publication, hopefully next year!
